The festivities of the present- day U.S. & many other countries date back to an essay penned by Julia Ward Hose in the 1870s, & later when Anna Jarvis promoted setting an official celebration in the early 1900s. The earliest origins of the modern Mothers Day, however, may lie in the society of the ancient Greeks. The Greeks held a festival in those days that functioned to honor mother goddesses, and human mothers by extension, every year around the vernal equinox. After the Romans took power later on, they continued this tradition.

In the United Kingdom, the date on which Mother’s Day is famed each year is related to the timing of Lent, whereas Canada & the United States always celebrate the second Sunday of May. The second Sunday of May isactually the choice of 82 several countries on 6 continents– this is every continent with a native population. Overall, May is by far the most popular month in which to set Mothers’ Day, with 104 countries choosing to celebrate sometime during the fifth month.

In other nations such as Bulgaria and Ukraine, Mother’s Day celebrations take place on March 8th to coincide with the observance of International Women’s Day. Still others, including Egypt, observe Mother’s Day on March 21, the vernal equinox where winter turns to spring; this may just be a throwback to the original celebrations so many centuries ago. Similarly, other dates are often chosen to coincide with the local culture’s established celebrations of mothers, much like many other holidays.

Jewelry is always a safe bet, & there are many options of special mother’s rings and other mother’s jewelry available, which is customized with the birthstone of each child.

Contemporary Jewelry – A Modern Day Form Loved By Marilyn Monroe

October 17th, 2011

Celebrity Contemporary Jewelry Is Available For Purchase At Auction

When contemporary jewelry previously owned by any celebrity comes up for sale, there’s often a huge spike in interest and all time high sale prices are typically obtained. The most recent news about the gemstones of the movie stars would be the fact that Marilyn Monroe’s wedding band, from her short-lived marriage to Joe DiMaggio is for sale. The platinum item from the 9 month marriage with the notable star of the baseball pitch has become available to buy. This specific wedding ring is a platinum eternity band, set with 35 baguette-cut diamonds (though one is now missing).

Monroe met DiMaggio for the initial time at an Italian restaurant in Hollywood on Sunset Boulevard. There was clearly instant chemistry between them and soon after a torrid but brief affair they got wed in a discreet civil marriage ceremony at San Francisco City Hall in 1954, out of the eyes of the public, quite rare for 2 individuals accustomed to living in the limelight.

However, the relationship was stressful from the start. DiMaggio was invited to see the set of the movie The Seven Year Itch, where he observed the renowned filming of Marilyn positioned above a subway grating fighting to prevent her clothes from billowing upwards. DiMaggio immediately stormed off in a rage and they were divorced just a couple of weeks later – nowhere near to the infamous “seven year itch”.

Contemporary Jewelry Worn By A Genuine Star of Stage and Screen

This contemporary jewelry ring from the marriage ceremony is anticipated to sell for $300,000 to $500,000. The public sale in December is becoming staged by Profiles, a Californian company that also auctioned the legendary subway dress worn by Marilyn Monroe, as a component of the Debbie Reynolds Collection which was sold last summer, fetching $5.52 million dollars and shattering Guinness Book Records.

Also up for sale is an authentic color piece of art by Earl Moran showing a young and nude Marilyn Monroe in a relaxed pose from a modeling session circa 1948-1949. Earl Moran was considered to be one of the most influential artist of this time. The artwork is predicted to sell for $70,000 to $90,000.

A set of Dorothy’s well-known ruby slippers are being sold in this same auction. Coming from the film The Wizard of Oz, they are expected to generate far more awareness and attention than Monroe’s wedding ring. Nevertheless a pre-auction estimation implies that these slippers are worth between $2 and $3 million. The pair that can be purchased at the auction is 1 of numerous pairs of ruby slippers utilized in the making of the film. This pair are claimed to be those shown when Judy Garland clicks her heels at the very end of the film. Whether or not that is the truth of the matter or fiction has yet to be established!

Contemporary jewelry need not be high priced, especially when you get new pieces from web pages, as opposed to buying at auction. The contemporary engagement rings along with other pieces you can locate could well be fit for a star, but suit the purse of a far more modest individual.

Talking About Necklaces – Their Popular Use In The Past As Well As The Present

October 10th, 2011

A necklace is defined by the Merriam-Webster dictionary as an ornament worn around the neck. Since the time of ancient civilizations, those such as silver necklaces have been worn for a variety of purposes. Today, they are considered among the most popular pieces of jewelry that are being worn by both men and women. They are also among the most popular gift ideas.

As was aforementioned, necklaces have been worn since the time of ancient civilizations. The oldest known necklace is believed to have been used about 75,000 years ago. It is a string of 41 mollusks excavated by archaeologists in April 2004 in a cave in South Africa. Prior to the discovery of this mollusk-string, the oldest known is believed to date back to 30,000 BC was strung on a thread and mostly made of shells, bones, stones, and animal teeth.

Making necklaces is one common thing among different cultures in different parts of the world. Different groups have learned to change and improved their skills in making them throughout the years, which paved the way to the development of the techniques we now know. One of the oldest known makers of necklaces are the Sumerians who thrived in 2000BC and used various patterns incorporated with colored stones and gemstones, as well as metals like copper and silver. There are also the Greeks who started the three-dimensional designed type, mostly made up of forms of heads, seeds, and acorns. These three dimensional designs led to the strings of stones, beads, and jewels as well as gold chains and silver necklaces we are now familiar with.

Necklaces are worn for various purposes. Some of the most popular reasons for wearing them include personal preference, social status, religion and belief with personal preference as the most common reason. These people use this piece of jewelry as adornment to complement their fashion style. Others, on the other hand, use them to signify their status in society like in the case of royals and nobles of the Early Monarch period of Europe. Moreover, there are also those individuals who use necklaces to show their religion and their beliefs. Examples of this are the Catholics who wear cross pendants on their neck to symbolize their belief in Christ and Native Americans who wear turquoise necklaces for good luck.

As already mentioned, different materials and designs are now used to make necklaces. Among the most popular designs are rope chains, serpentines, and foxtails. Rope chains as its name suggests resembles a rope with a spiral design and are made of two chains twisted together. Two links laid right next to each other for serpentines while foxtail necklaces are made of ovals links made to face each other. Other popular designs and types include silver necklaces, chokers, bib necklaces, and gold and diamond necklaces.

Necklaces, no matter if they are simple bead and silver necklace or very expensive like the 263 carat diamond gift presented by Napoleon Bonaparte to his second wife, will continue to be one of the most loved pieces of jewelry there is.

The Exciting World of Tungsten Carbide Rings

October 9th, 2011

A number of the tungsten rings worn for symbolic and fashion purposes alike have similar roots in ancient tradition, while many others take their cue from this tradition and wear or create tungsten rings to express something meaningful in a modern way.

Tungsten Celtic wedding bands represent a rich history and tradition and are a unique way to celebrate the art and ingenuity of one’s Celtic ancestors. The Celtic tungsten rings on this page include designs that capture religious Christian iconography; interlaced, decorative knot patterns representing never-ending love; and the storied Claddagh, a token of fidelity steeped in folklore and custom.

Sleek, gorgeous black tungsten wedding bands in the category of black tungsten and ceramic jewelry are a bold and decisive choice among many more conventional styles. Of particular note are the ceramic versions of the most popular black tungsten wedding bands. As all-over black rings go, both the black tungsten ring and ceramic black ring styles have some great qualities.

One should keep in mind that although natural-tone tungsten is scratch resistant, the black color on tungsten black wedding rings is a plated coating on the surface which can wear off and scratch over time. Many people still choose these rings because the black is so richly hued and seems to glow, but if you are concerned that the coating will not withstand your active lifestyle, go with a solid black ceramic ring. If a completely black ring is not quite your style, perhaps a permanently polished tungsten carbide band in tungsten’s natural pale grey color and just a touch of black is what you need; in that case, try a tungsten carbide ring accented with black enamel or black carbon fiber inlay.

Concave ring designs in durable tungsten carbide make some of the most modern and interesting wedding rings to be found anywhere, providing a stylish twist to the very conventional and traditional plain dome design. This unusual shape really pulls a modern look together.

Modern-day Wedding Band Styles for the Cu tting-edge Wedding

October 3rd, 2011

Should men wear wedding rings? And, what about engagement rings? Women wear them-does this mean that men should agree to wear them too? I have always worn rings, but sometimes I will go out without them on. But, I can see how some men, who have never worn a ring, would not want to wear one after getting married. I also think if you trust someone it should not really matter whether your partner wants to wear a ring or not.

There are many different ring materials which also reflect the personality of the individual. Titanium or Platinum are both becoming much more popular. Whilst diamonds are not, of course, as popular with men as with women, they do make a clear statement which pleases some men who choose them. Diamond men’s rings clearly say “I can afford it” or at least the big ones do. But it can be a brave man who chooses to wear a large diamond band.

It became the custom for US soldiers going to war to publicize their marital status by the wearing of a man’s wedding ring. They were happy to make public their commitment to their wife by the wearing of a public symbol that declared that commitment to all. Given that this habit of wearing men’s wedding bands was reasonably new it was all the more creditable that these men were willing to forego the marital obscurity available to them from not wearing a ring and actively chose to make a public statement about their choice.

Ultimately there are no rules about choosing a man wedding band. It is up to either the man or the couple together to make a decision. Will he or won’t he. There are a variety of considerations. First, will he wear one? Once that decision is made in the affirmative then there is a whole world of choice about styles, widths, materials and the type of statement the ring makes, both for the man and the woman.

But once he has his ring on it is rare that he decides that he doesn’t like it. And even if he doesn’t, it is rare that the woman will let him take it off!

For Your 5 Year Anniversary, Say I Love You With Diamonds

September 26th, 2011

There are a few things to consider before you choose from the most romantic ways to propose. Would the two of you prefer a private or a public proposal? Both can be romantic and special. Take a romantic horse-drawn carriage ride. Arrange in advance to have the driver stop in a secluded area. Get out of the carriage, drop to one knee, and ask her to marry you. This is a classic proposal, but one of the most romantic ways to propose. Glide along the water in a romantic kayaking experience with Beach Shoot San Diego. They arrange a special note from you for your loved one to notice a “Message In A Bottle” floating out to sea. After opening it and reading your love note to her, you ask her to marry you. They also play your favorite songs and take professional photographs of this special moment. More Info

In a recent study the majority of married women reported that they believe that their spouse spent a significant amount of money on their wedding proposal but that the lack of originality in the proposal had left the women feeling disappointed.

Plan a treasure hunt. Leave a trail of rose petals or chocolate kisses from one place to the next. Have a love note at each stop until she finds the ring and you on your knee ready to propose.

Another creative marriage proposal idea is to purchase a book of poems and leave the first few pages intact and carve a heart into the remaining pages and sew the engagement ring to the back of the book. You could suggest taking turns reading the poems on each page and plan to have your girlfriend turn the final complete page to reveal the heart and ring that were hidden inside. This proposal idea is not only creative but also incredibly romantic.

After dinner in a romantic restaurant, prearrange for the waiter to bring a dessert with “Will you marry me?” written on the plate with chocolate or raspberry syrup. Place the ring in a small box. Place that box in progressively larger boxes. Wrap the largest box beautifully. Tell her, “This is a gift that will last a lifetime.” When she reaches the ring, tell her how much you want to spend your life with her.

Eternity bands are sometimes difficult to make, as they are most often sold by total carat weight and thus limited to an exact stone size to form the right size circle for each different wearer’s finger.

Although diamonds are the most frequently-seen stone in eternity rings, many other precious gems are appearing in eternity rings as custom pieces, birthstone rings, and fashion jewelry for wearers in search of a favorite stone. Emeralds, sapphires, rubies, and different colors like pink and yellow sapphires and black diamonds are all growing in popularity.

Although the diamond eternity band is here to stay, many new styles to suit different tastes have cropped up, and many retailers offer birthstone ternity rings and designs alternating other gems with diamonds.

The eternity ring, formed by making a solid circle of gems around the band, can be created in many ways. An assortment of settings as radically different as the single prong, shared prong, and pave styles can be found, and very old gem setting technique such as channel setting and bezel setting lends themselves well to this style.

Contemporary Wedding Band Trends for the Current Wedding

August 14th, 2011

As you may now know, tungsten carbide is the hardest metal you can get in the form of a ring. It is great because it doesn’t get scratched, but some have voiced concerns that in an emergency the ring will be very difficult to remove.

Tungsten carbide and ceramic rings are removed by cracking them into pieces with standard vice grip locking pliers. The same technique is used for removing natural stone bands like onyx or jade. Place vice grip locking pliers over the band and adjust the jaws to clamp lightly. Release and adjust tightening screw one-forth turn and clamp again. Repeat this process until a crack is heard. The ring will brake in to two or more pieces.

Tungsten rings are particularly durable, especially compared to other popular metals like titanium. While this is typically a positive aspect—they are harder to scratch and damage than other rings—it can also pose a safety hazard. In certain emergencies, wearing a ring may be hazardous for the wearer and require emergency removal.

We liked the look of titanium and even though we heard rumors that titanium is hard and can’t be cut we saw no reason for not going with titanium bands. We found this great website titaniumstyle.com which had a great variety of wedding bands not to mention great prices also. Needless to say we were extremely happy with the rings we ordered. We got married in December 2007 and we recently had our first baby.

The durability of tungsten rings poses a problem regarding resizing. Many styles of rings, like gold and titanium, can be resized as the wearer’s fingers grow; tungsten, however, cannot be resized. A tungsten ring must be completely replaced as the wearer’s finger grows. If the finger begins outgrowing the ring, the ring should be immediately replaced before any damage can occur.
